PERIOD OF VEHICLE OPERATION UNTIL THE CONFLICTING MOVEMENT

This paper is meant to be a contribution to the research of human element in occurrence of traffic accidents: by analysing only one random value expressed as the period of operation of a vehicle until the conflicting movement caused on the part of the driver the author tries to investigate by the method of mathematical statistics based upon empirical distribution its characteristics and possibly establish the rule of probability of this variable in the basic array. Thus it has been important to establish if and when the driver experiences in the process of operation a reduced power of judgement and concentration due to fatigue which becomes actual in the shape of a conflicting movement with either minor or major consequences.

The highest incidence of conflicting movements which occurs within the period of six hours of operation points to the pronounced impact of fatigue which in bus drivers at this point results in considerable deviations of operating capacity and, at the same time, confirms the justifiability of legal stipulation of mandatory rest of drivers after the completion of five hour drive.
