MARKET OF TRANSPORT SERVICES AS AN ELEMENT OF TRANSPORT SYSTEM STRUCTURING AND FUNCTIONING

Specific aspects of the process of production of transport services assign specific characteristics to the transport demand and supply. From the theoretical standpoint we can only discuss correctly the possibilities of the transport market to act upon the structuring and functioning of the transport system if we consider an individual route or a corridor as a separate transport market.

Market alone cannot be an efficient element for allocation of capital into fixed funds and, moreover, as the structure of a transport system differs, among other things, by respective infrastructure facilities, the possibility of the market to act upon the institution of an optimum transport system structure is restricted to a degree.

The relation ships of transport supply and demand cannot be therefore regulated by the automatism of the transport market so that, consequently, the structuring of the transport system, that is the regulation of relationships of individual transport industries within the transport system cannot be left exclusively to the effects of transport market.
