COOPERATION OF YUGOSLAVIA WITH INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS ON INTRODUCTION OF MODERN TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGIES

Cooperation of Yugoslavia with international economic groups, specialized organizations of the UN, transport organizations (firms and companies, etc.) has been very important. This makes it possible for our country to place over 50 million tons of commodities to the markets all over the world, i.e. to procure them from these markets as imports, and mark considerate transit traffic volumes. Including transit and transport services abroad, our transport industry makes 1/3 of its overall transport volumes in international traffic.
Development and application of modern transport technologies in domestic traffic, primarily in sea transport and port services, have marked vigorous growth although judging by the level of development we are still considerably legging behind progressive nations. The main cause inevitably refers to postponed modernization of our traffic routes, particularly of rail and road aspects, lack of freight distribution depots and container and piggy-back trains on major international traffic routes. In the light of this situation, it is indispensable to expedite the materialization of Social Contracts on traffic policy, development of integrated transport systems and long-term traffic system development plans until the year 2000. In this way we could in a more adequate manner join the world
trends and considerably increase foreign currency inflow from transport services.
