ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY IN THE SR OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA IN THE PERIOD OF 1984-1988.

This paper deals with the safety of road traffic in the transport system of the SR of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period of 1984-1988 and projections for the period of 1989-1993. The level of traffic safety has been shown by absolute and relative indices. The respective level of road traffic safety in the SR of Bosnia and Herzegovina is below the average road traffic safety level reported for the SFR of Yugoslavia. Furthermore, the number of road traffic accidents in the reviewed period is on the increase. The application of the statistical method of the smallest squares has yielded the equation of the straight line best corresponding to the presented data, while the subsequent projection of the total number of road traffic accidents for the period of 1989-1993 has been completed on the basis of the mentioned equation.

The paper further reviews the "10% Reduction" efforts and the requirement for advanced social commitment on raising the required
level of road traffic safety in the spirit of the "By 10 per cent” activity.
