Transportation planners need to estimate the trip generations of different land use types in the travel demand forecasting process. The Trip Generation Manual of Malaysia, similar to the Trip Generation Manual of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, USA, provides the trip generation rate at “Polyclinics” as a function of the Gross Floor Area. However, the data for this rate have no line of best fit resulting in the lack of confidence in the prediction. This study considered ten locations in Malaysia and verified the significance of different parameters, i.e. Number of Doctors, Number of Staff, Gross Floor Area and Density of Similar Clinics within 0.5 kilometre radius in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The study developed regression equations for estimating the peak hours and daily trips at polyclinics in terms of “Number of Doctors”. The developed models can be used in estimating the number of trips generated by the polyclinics in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Ishtiaque Ahmed, PhD is a Professional Engineer and Life Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh. He is a Member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), USA and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Dr. Ishtiaque has a rich blend of job experiences comprising of international organizations, consultancy services, research and teaching. He is currently working as an Associate Professor of Transportation (Civil Engineering) at the University Technology Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru and he teaches post-graduate level students and conducts research on Transport Planning, Transport Safety and other relevant subjects. He worked on various transport projects and regional cooperation related activities while working with the Transport Division of the United Nations ESCAP at Bangkok, Thailand and with the World Bank based in Dhaka, Bangladesh as a Transport Specialist of the World Bank South Asia Sustainable Development Department. As a World Bank staff, he worked on projects in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and India in consultation with other development partners including ADB, JICA and UK DFID. As a Transport Specialist of the World Bank he has hands on experience working on transport projects in the development agency environment for more than six (06) years. Dr. Ishtiaque has experience working on an award winning elevated expressway project in Thailand. He also worked in Kansas, California and Florida of USA on transport projects. Mr. Ishtiaque possesses an excellent academic background and was awarded by the Chancellor (President) of Bangladesh for his outstanding performance in the secondary school level. He was awarded a Medal by South Gujarat University, India for his achievement in the Civil Engineering degree program. Dr. Ishtiaque obtained his PhD degree in 2003 from the University of Kansas (KU), USA. He obtained his master degree in Transportation Engineering with a Government of Japan Scholarship from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand in 1997 and his Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Distinction (Civil Engineering) in 1992 with a Government of India Scholarship from South Gujarat University, Surat, India. Mr. Ishtiaqueâ€™s interests are in the fields of Transport Planning, Road Safety, Transport Policy and Transport Economics. Â He has visited more than twenty (20) countries of the world with keen interests in the field of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Mohd Rosli Hainin, Professor and Head Department of Geotechnics and Transportation Faculty of Civil Engineering Universiti Teknology Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru, Malaysia http://civil.utm.my/ishtiaque

Dr. Mohd Rosli Hainin obtained his B.Sc in Civil Engineering from Clemson University, USA (1990) and M.Sc in Highway Engineering from University of Kansas, USA (1996). He completed his Phd at the National Center of Asphalt Technology (NCAT), Auburn University, Alabama, USA in 2004.

Dr. Rosli started his career as civil engineer with a construction company, Muhibbah Engineering (M) Sdn. Bhd. before joining Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM in 1990.Currently, Dr. Rosli is a Professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and the Head of the Department of Geotechnics and Transportation. Dr. Rosliâ€™s fields of interest are pavement materials, design, construction and rehabilitation. He is a member of Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists (AAPT), USA, technical committee of Pavement for Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM), and an executive committee of International Committee of Pavement Technology (ICPT).

Dr. Rosli has produced 210 technical papers including 72 journal articles and supervised more than 70 post graduate students. He has involved in 22 research projects worth about RM 2.5 million. Some of his achievements are winning the Gold Medal in International Innovation and Exhibition (ITEX) organized by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOSTI) 2013, with research project entitled, â€˜GREEN PAVEMENT TECHNOLOGY INCORPORATING NANOCLAY MODOFIED ASPHALT BINDERâ€™, Bronze Award at the International Conference and Exhibition (PECIPTA 2013) and Bronze Prize at the Seoul International InventionÂ Fair (SIIF 2013). He was also awarded with Best Supervision Award 2012 and Consultancy Award 2013 by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Excellent Service Award in 2004 and 2008 by the University.

Sitti Asmah Hassan, Senior Lecturer Department of Geotechnics and Transportation Faculty of Civil Engineering Universiti Teknology Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Dr. Sitti Asmah Hassan is a lecturer at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She started her career as a tutor at Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM in 2002. She obtained her B.Sc in Civil Engineering (2002) Â and M.Eng in Highway and Traffic Engineering (2005)Â from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She completed her Phd at the University of Southampton, UK in 2013. Dr Sitti Asmahâ€™s fields of interest are transport and traffic engineering.
