DIMENSIONING THE RAIL SERVICE SUPPLY FROM THE ASPECT OF SPACE AND TIME REFERENCES

The process of adaptation of a rail company to the requirements and demands of the users calls for the introduction of innovations made possible by technical progress, i.e. modernization of technical means. The basic requirements are arranged within the said terms of reference as manifested in higher speeds, increased output of power units and improved quality of transport service. These requirements are highly correlative and complementary so that it is rather difficult to establish the respective sequence and meaning of an individual one in the overall production by quality and quantity of the transport service.

Completion of the requirements mentioned is rather complex, among other things, owing to the fact that the technological process is proceeding in the dynamic component that has, at the same time, its space and time dimension. These two aspects of the capacity are complementary so that it can be said that here we deal with the two sides of one and the same phenomenon being in strong correlation.

The paper deals with the space and time aspects of the transport service supply. The basic parameters are identified and presented on the basis of which it is possible to dimension the transport service supply of a rail company so that it may meet the demand in the best possible way, in the right place, at the correct time and at lowest costs.
