SUBURBAN PASSENGER TRANSPORT

The paper deals with the current issues of suburban passenger transport in the gravitation zones of major cities in Croatia and their neighbourhood. The author discusses the needs and possibilities of mass railway transport. In the process, road transport (buses, taxi, etc.), as arranged by different groups or privately, would provide rides to the terminals of mass rail transport and back.

In this respect it is possible to establish a common all-inclusive fare and division of revenues among several subjects providing the transport service. In view of the above, it shall be necessary to consider and materialize the plans for suburban transport services for every major urban area in Croatia. Such projects should be initiated soon. The projects may be elaborated by the team of researchers and technical experts organized in a research institution, to be in charge from the very beginning, from the stage of elaboration of the idea to the completion of the project.
